Dementia Friendly East Belfast

In 2016, East Belfast Dementia Friendly won the Dementia Friendly Community of the Year award at the Alzheimer’s Society dementia friendly awards. Together the steering group members aim to increase awareness and understanding, inclusion and support for people living with dementia.
Build it.
In 2019, the team celebrate setting up 35 information hubs in the east of the city, training 760 dementia friends and running countless interactive dementia awareness training sessions at the RADAR Centre. Other areas of the city are now following the lead of those in the east and are working to become dementia friendly.
Grow it.
In 2020, East Belfast Dementia Friendly won Best Community Project of the Year at the Eastside Awards Ceremony in Stormont Hotel. In East Belfast people are actively included in the community and residents have more awareness and understanding of dementia as a result of our campaign.
