Evenings can sometimes be difficult for people living with a dementia diagnosis. Some people can experience increased agitation, restlessness and confusion at this time of the day, so what better way to relax than to sit down with a cup of tea and sing along with some soothing, easy listening songs from decades past.

Sundown Sessions is a project by local East Belfast musician Edelle McMahon who has been hosting regular sing along sessions from her YouTube channel on Monday and Thursday evenings. Edelle sings songs from various genres (folk, country, jazz, rock’n’roll, pop, musicals), stretching from the 1920s to modern times, to help her audience relax into the evening and get ready for a restful night’s sleep.

Music has the power to let us travel through time and unlock happy memories from our past, as well as being a great way to relax and de-stress. The Sundown Sessions can be enjoyed by the whole family – singing together and talking about the memories evoked by old songs.

If you would like to tune in to the Sundown Sessions all you have to do is go to Edelle’s YouTube channel (www.YouTube.com/c/singalongwithedelle ) at 7pm on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7pm and click on the link for the live stream.

Edelle also sends out a weekly reminder email on Monday and Thursdays. If you would like to receive this weekly reminder just send an email to singwithedelle@gmail.com to get on the list. Requests for your favourite songs can also be sent to this email address – get them in before 6pm on Monday or Thursday and Edelle will do her best to sing the song that evening
